Fiat 500 launch - 21st January 2008
On a wild, wet and windy night Clemo held a launch party for existing and potential customers for the iconic Fiat 500.

Guests were treated to an evening of Italian canapés and drinks supplied and served by a team from Casa Mia, part of La Dolce Italia Ltd of Leeds. Francesco Mazzella, the owner of the three Italian restaurants and delicatessen was on hand to supervise the serving of a fine Prosecco as guests arrived.
Andy Lynch, the talented Bradford Bulls prop kindly help unveil the new Fiat 500 and afterwards chatted with staff and customers.
At 8.00pm, exactly 500 hours after the start of the New Year the new Fiat 500 was launched at the London Eye. Via a live link-up guests of Clemo were able to see the Fiat 500 lit up in one of the "pods" at the top of the London Eye.
Clemo hired in two 50" plasma screens and large speakers so that their guests could enjoy a performance by Mika taking place immediately after the Fiat 500 was unveiled.
Exactly 50 years after the original, iconic Fiat 500 went on sale on 4th July 1957 the new "everyday masterpiece" was launched in the home of Fiat - Turin, the capital of Piedmont, and the home of Juventus FC. In the same year John Charles was transferred from Leeds United to Juventus FC for a then-record transfer fee of £65,000. John Charles spent part of his life after retirement from football running the Gomersal Park Hotel, just outside Cleckheaton.
It sounds as if it could be complicated to order a Fiat 500 but the range is simply made up of three different engines and three different body styles - Pop, Sport and Lounge. With 12 bodywork colours, eight sticker kits and 10 different badges it starts to get more interesting….then there are 14 alternative upholstery solutions, options on chrome detailing, nine different wheel designs, options such as bespoke graphics on carpet mats and of course a choice of nine different designs for the ignition key…..and that's not all!!!
Before you start down the road of personalising your Fiat 500 you need to understand the pricing structure. It's very simple - the range starts from £7,900 for the 1.2 Pop, rises to £9,300 for the next four models in the range and tops out at £10,700 for the four most expensive models in the range.
History
The company can trace its roots back to Ellison and Cordingley, a 19th century as a manufacturer of steam wagons based at the current Bradford Road site.
In 1924 what had by now become Cleckheaton Engineering expanded its operations by taking on the Rover and Morris franchises and the name changed to Cleckheaton Engineering and Motor Company Ltd.
In 1960 a new company was established, Cleckheaton Holdings Ltd as the decision was taken to expand the motor retail side of the business. In 1963 Clemo Motors was established at Moorside with new purpose-built premises to house Triumph, Rover and Vauxhall. In 1964 the company purchased the local Ford business of George Wright Motors. An accident repair business was subsequently added to the Moorside.
In the late 1990s the opportunity arose to expand the Rover business as BMW unveiled its ambitious plans for the re-birth of the Mini brand and launched the Rover 75. In 2003 the company took advantage of the new commercial freedoms available under the Block Exemption Regulations to take on the Daihatsu franchise and the Citroen Authorised Repairer contract at the Bradford Road site. A year later and the company seized the chance to take on the Fiat franchise at the Bradford Road site. April 2005 saw the ending of a 61 year relationship with Rover as Administrators were appointed to MG Rover.
